The common lights used in homes are: incandescent and florescent lights. Light bulbs come under incandescent lighting whereas tubes come under florescent lighting. Incandescent light sources produce yellow light and are not an energy efficient option.

Unlike incandescent lighting, florescent lights are more comfortable for the eyes as they produce white light which is similar to the natural light and is shadow free. Florescent lights are also more economical than incandescent lights. Dimmer switches are becoming very popular now days as they allow you to control the brightness of light as per your needs.

Reading lamps should be at the height of shoulder. If you write with your right hand, place the lamp at left side and vice-versa if you are left handed. This way it gives you a shadow free light while working. Use ion-max lamp for reading as it produces natural lighting and reduces stress from eyes.

Every room in your house requires proper lighting and kitchen is one the most important places so it must be well lit. Earlier ceiling lights were a popular choice for kitchen but now days there are several new types of lighting for kitchen. Like, lighting over the counter tops, sinks and cabinets. There is task lighting available which is used to light up a particular area.

You can use different types of lighting for living rooms. For example, use task lighting for reading purpose, general lighting for the over all illumination of the area which can be used for activities like watching TV. You can also use accent lights to highlight some special features of the room.

Dining room is the central place of a home so you can use special and some fancy lights to decorate it. For example, chandeliers, candles, colorful silk lanterns and other ambient lights will look good. These lights can make your room look simply amazing.

Right lighting arrangements is equally important for a bedroom. The lighting arrangements should be such that it creates a warm and a cozy feel where you can relax. You can place lamps on both sides of the bed for a romantic feel. You can even use chandeliers. Up lights and hanging lights is also a popular choice for bedrooms.
