How Is Curtain Measuring Done?

Article Written By: Sarah K Howarth

Add Your Picture Whether the curtain is for a window, a door or other space, it needs to be of correct measurement, as per the size of that location. Incorrect measurement will lead to a bad stitch which will be a loss of money otherwise. Even the material of the curtain is expensive therefore it can be a loss if measurements are not correct. Not only will it be an added expense but will also look quite odd, spoiling the whole look of the room.

Curtains are coming in all kinds of different materials these days so a person should always keep in mind the type of material the curtain will be made out of. If it is a stretchable material it will have the tendency not to give a constant measurement at all times therefore it is advised to have an expert take its measurement since they know the ways. Shrinking of material is another issue hence the material of the curtain can shrink as well after the initial wash.

Thirdly, one should always keep in mind that most of the curtains have the tendency to shrink after their first wash. It is a wise thing to stitch extra fabric in the seams on the sides and the bottom of the curtains. So, while taking the measurements for the length and breadth of the curtain, a difference of few inches/cm should be added to avoid any problems that may arise later.

Instead of measuring the window, the pole of the window or the curtain track should be measured. This is a very crucial point that one should remember. Even when you are taking the curtain length you should decide how much fall you want in the curtain. This will identify the drop of the curtain on the floor, window or other. Lastly you should always start taking the measurement from the racks top till the end that you require the curtain to be.

The foremost tip of measuring curtains is to measure the dimensions when one is not in a hurry or in a hassle. Taking accurate measurements takes time. In case of any sort of confusion about the scale, i.e. if anyone, you or the tailor, mix up the measurements in yards or inches, a major disaster is bound to happen.
