Easy Installation and Maintenance of Synthetic Turf
Synthetic turf, also known as artificial turf is a type of artificial surface that resembles natural grass. This surface is generally used for home owner s lawns, arena sports, or some commercial applications and involves less maintenance cost as compared to the natural grass. It was invented by David Chaney, in 1965, who is the head of RTP research team, but it became popular when it was first installed by Houston Astrodome.
Synthetic turf is available in three kinds of materials, nylon, polyethylene, and polypropylene. The material to be used for its preparation depends on the cost that a person can afford and for what purpose required. Installing turf may appear easy to some people but it is not what actually the eyes see. People may assume that its installation just requires throwing an artificial grass slab over the natural grass which fits for covering it.
It may seem easy to be done, but actually a whole day is spent only in measuring the total area that has to be covered by this grass. The installation requires not more than two persons, but necessary tools and equipments are required to handle the task. Just like any other work, it is required to first measure the area to be covered and then prepare for further necessary tasks, prior to installing artificial grass.
The first and foremost thing is to measure the necessary area, and then create boundaries of the place that will be covered with this grass. After this, the existing ground or grass is removed from the place with the help of digging or by a lawn mower. Due to this process the place becomes rough and uneven so it is vital to follow the process of flattening the surface which can be carried on by a flattening tool or a roller.
The reason for making this surface flat and smooth is that after laying the synthetic grass, no uneven surfaces come as an obstacle while walking or running over it.
Once the work of flattening and smoothening is finished, then comes the turn of setting the first layer, which works as a foundation for the artificial grass. The first layer is put in order to cover the decomposed rocks and stones and dirt particles.
This layer has to be set with an extra effort and finish and should be able to cover all rock particles of about one inch. As soon as this layer has been processed with extra care, the worker has to become ready for setting the synthetic grass.
The next step involves layering of artificial grass on the area which requires adequate tools and equipments. The artificial turf is installed in such a way that each layer of synthetic grass is placed next to each other, without occurrence of any gap in between. For a perfect and strong fitting, it is significant to leave some extra turf on exterior area, so that they can be placed in. This is the hardest part and once it gets over, it is time to distribute the actual layer of the turf evenly on the ground.
To instill the artificial grass, it has to be made sure that all the blades of synthetic turf are standing upright. This is done to give comfort and exotic feeling that is provided by actual, natural grass. If blades are in a standing upright position then it means that the last layer has been successfully placed and this turf will do all the work of a natural grass.
The last point to be discussed is regarding the maintenance of this turf. However it will be amazing for all to know that this turf does not require any kind of maintenance that was needed in case of natural grass.
It does not require mowing, watering, and neither has any problem with pets as it is highly durable, and moreover it can be easily cleaned like a carpet, with either a vacuum or with a disinfectant that may be provided by the turf company.
ozturf are leaders in the design and manufacture of quality synthetic turf and artificial lawn.
