Before you lay the mosaic, you should take a look at the surface. Generally the mosaic design is laid on the floor of concrete and unless it is smooth without any detritus, the design will take a scattered look. One can use a comb spreader to apply the adhesive on the concrete surface. It is the adhesive which will help to join the mosaic quickly. As soon as you lay down the mosaic, you have to hammer level the surface with the help of rubber or wooden mallet. However when you hammer level the surface, one should be careful, so that the stones are chipped. If there is a problem while fixing the floor, you can take help of polystyrene cement in order to replace the missing pieces. After the mosaic is placed, you can wait for sometime, for a week or so to apply the tile grout in the gaps.
You do not want the design to be spoiled, so it is better to use the light-colored adhesive which helps in retaining the sleek and smooth look of the mosaic tile. After the grout is applied, the excess should be cleaned. The design will be set within a few days. After the grout is dry, a special stone polish is applied on the mosaic which brings out the color and polish of the mosaic. Choosing the right package of mosaic is extremely important as it is the color selection which creates a lot of difference to the way the floor looks. Choosing expensive mosaic designs is a good thing as it is a long-term investment.
Before buying the package, you should mark the area on which you want to apply the mosaic design. The best place to look for different designs is the Internet. A number of designs are available like the medallion, landscape, and animals and geometric. Asymmetrical geometric designs look amazing on the floor. There are a number of catalogs which will help you to make a decision about the designs of the mosaic. Often it is seen that the quality of the stone in mosaic designs available locally is not good compared to Lebanese marbles.
You should always remember that the mosaic design will enhance the charm of the room. And if you are thinking of long-term investment, it is better to spend money in the beginning. Once you get the mosaic which comes in rolls, you need to flatten the bumps. If there are any missing pieces, you should immediately report the incident to the shop. Moreover one should be careful about handling the packages. Often rough handling can lead to severe damages and you might have to replace some of the pieces. If you are planning to refurbish any of the rooms, you can begin with the basics like the flooring and the walls. And for the floors, mosaic designs can be a pretty good choice.
