Most Traditional living rooms are done in darker woods, although a pleasing mix of lighter woods can be used if the furniture's design is classic. Choose window treatments based on traverse draperies, often with pleated sheers underneath and cornices or valances over top. Avoid designs with excess tassels and fringe When it comes to accessories buy everything in pairs; plants, lamps, mirrors, china, and vases. Then you can arrange them symmetrical. Track lighting is out; only use the traditional light fixtures. Colors should be white ivory or white shades. You can also add a floor lamp and wall sconces for this look. Consider interior details that exhibit the Traditional principles of homey calm and order: glossy white trim and molding, crown molding and walls finished with wallpaper and chair rails.
