Pillar candles get their name from architectural pillars which are very similar in appearance. Pillar candles are generally shorter and wider than taper candles which are normally tall and thin. A pillar candle can come in a variety of different sizes from 2 inches wide by 3 inches tall all the way to 6 inches wide by 9 inches tall.

You can decorate your home with pillar candles and let the soft light accentuate the romantic atmosphere in your bedroom. Each room of the house might call for a different style of pillar candle. These candles do not contain a decorative jar or container and can therefore more easily fit into many design themes.

To add romance and make your bathroom alluring, add several candles of various sizes throughout this small space. Place a pillar or two on your bathtub surround, countertop, and window sills and on the back of your toilet. When you want a soothing retreat, light the candles, turn out the light and crawl into a warm bubble bath to enjoy the dcor and dim lighting provided by the candles.

You can also use pillar candles to decorate and bring attention to your fireplace during the summer months. When it is too hot to burn a fire in your fireplace, you can still create a romantic ambiance in the room by filling the fireplace with pillar candles. Gather candles of various shapes and set them together in a group inside the fireplace opening. Place taller pillars at the back of the group and shorter candles at the front to create a layered look in the fireplace.

Simple pillar candles make beautiful decorative additions to the bedroom and provide a romantic lighting when you want it. To decorate your bedroom with pillars, place the candles on shelves, shelf-style headboards, dressers, vanities, bedside tables and even on the floor or windowsills. When you are ready to use the candles, be sure to reposition them away from flammable fabrics and floor coverings.

To prevent damage to your belongings such as table tops and table clothes, you might want to consider placing pillar candles on candle holders. This is especially important particularly with pillar candles with a two inch or less diameter. You can also spruce up the look of a pillar candle by placing on a candle holder that will complement the design on the pillar. If you don't want to buy a candle holder than you can easily use small plates, mirrors or other pieces of glass.

To add to the dcor of your home, you can find pillar candles in hundreds of color options from light pink to black candles. These vast color options allow you to match your pillar candles to the dcor of any room. Many of these candles are available in shades of white and off-white that you can match with more rooms. Choosing white or off-white candles allows you to easily move the candles through the rooms of your home without worrying about matching the colors of your candles with the room dcor.
