How to bust the dust

I can't stand dust around the home. And I dislike dusting. Or at least the idea of it. What makes it easier to cope with is the idea that you can use technology. Perhaps it's the distraction of the technology. That there is a fun element to it. Or maybe it's just me. I don't usually trust appliances to use for every household job. But dusting is one of those things that for me at least, a hand-held vacuum cleaner makes the job more appealing to do.

My new hand-held vacuum cleaner looks very different from the first model they launched which my Dad had in the early 1980s. It uses less energy, even less than other hand-held vacuum cleaners of similar specifications. The features are great too, with a range of functions that make this a very versatile vacuum cleaner that you can use in the car, around the home and anywhere else that might need cleaning but is unsuitable for a larger vacuum cleaner.

As a gardener and DIY enthusiast I also need a hand-held vacuum cleaner that can be used around the shed as well. The Dustbuster is well up to the job. It's tough, sturdy and very powerful for its size. It even looks the job, with tough moulded plastic parts that seem like they can take a knock here and there.

Dust is not just an annoyance; it can seriously damage tools, home appliances and affect people with allergies too. So it is not just a case of me disliking doing the dusting and needed some Gizmo to help me do it in a fun way.

An in-law called round the other day for a cup of tea and a chat. They saw the Dustbuster on the coffee table and asked me what it was like to use. I told her it was a convenient and invaluable hand-held cleaner. She's the type of person who always keeps a very smart looking and dust free house. But she had never had a hand-held vacuum cleaner before and I felt kind of superior to her in the sense they always seem a very organised and together household.

She had a play with it and was impressed. It was flattering to be told that her next home appliance purchase would be a exactly the one that I bought, especially as I don't believe she really rated me as the sort of person to be bothered with dusting to the extent that this vacuum cleaner can manage.

It's nice to know that a choice I make of what vacuum cleaner to buy is also taken by an in-law who may not otherwise have considered such a purchase. But I've only had this Dustbuster vacuum cleaner for a month. I'm just hoping I won't get bored with it and need to spend more money on another innovative way to rid my house and outbuildings of dust.
