A person is having hyperglycemia if his blood glucose is 180 mg/dl or higher, when measured at the same time of day for consecutive two three days. Mostly two types of hyperglycemia develop in diabetic patients: Fasting hyperglycemia and After-meal or Postprandial Hyperglycemia.- Fasting hyperglycemia is a condition with blood sugar greater than 90-130 mg/dl (milligrams per deciliter) after fasting for at least 8 hours.- Postprandial Hyperglycemia is condition with blood sugar usually greater than 180 mg/dl, after the meal.There are various causes of hyperglycemia, but the major of them is consuming too much food. When you eat more than your eating plan, there are chances that your blood glucose may shoot. In that case your exercise routine and medication will not be able to handle the excessive blood sugar level. Another secondary cause of having high blood glucose is not getting regular exercise.No prominent physical symptoms are caused in result of hyperglycemia. But there are few people who experience some sort of minor symptoms which they had before their first diagnosis. These are: blurry vision, fatigue and thirst. Whether the symptoms appear or not, the only way to diagnose the hyperglycemia is to have a regular check on your blood glucose. Monitoring your blood glucose is the only way to keep your self safe from being hyperglycemic.In case you become hyperglycemic, you can try few things. These may help you to lower the blood glucose but in any case contact immediately your physician.- Take insulin on time. Don t disturb the timing or dosage of the insulin in any case. This will cause hyperglycemia.- Hyperglycemia may develop in case you change your oral hyperglycemic agent or taking any other medication temporarily. When your body gets used to that new agent, hyperglycemia will automatically disappear.- Sometimes, you find your blood glucose level high and assume it as hyperglycemia, but the facts can be different, monitor the blood glucose at the same time everyday to have a clear idea of the fluctuations in blood glucose.- Never experiment with your insulin dosage. Always use the prescribed amount by your physicians.In any case it is better to consult your physician and told him properly what measures you had taken to control the blood glucose. Your physicians may have some blood tests and readjust the dosage of insulin intake or may advise you some new exercises or diet plan to bring that blood glucose down to normal.
