Article Written By: Joslin Diabetes

Add Your Picture Diabetes is a fatal disorder caused by the malfunctioning of the pancreas. It results in a decreased production of insulin by the body. Insulin is a hormone that is essential to transfer sugar to the cells that provide them energy. The symptoms of this disease are increased thirst, increased urination, constant hunger, weight loss, irritability, unclear vision and fatigue. When all these symptoms happen together, it is known as a metabolic syndrome.

While each of the above is harmless alone, a combination of any of these can prove mortal for the body. And if left untreated, it can lead to a number of serious illnesses such as a heart stroke or a kidney failure. Before you begin treating diabetes, you must visit your physician and make sure of the disease. There are a series of tests that your doctor will recommend you to diagnose diabetes.

There are a number of treatments available for diabetes. Medicines, insulin injections, surgery and lifestyle changes are the common treatments of them all. The most important diabetes treatment is changing your lifestyle. Eating healthy, sleeping right and exercising regularly are the key components of a healthy lifestyle. It goes hand in hand with the other treatments such as medicines so that you can avail the complete benefit from the treatment.

Sometimes a treatment advised by the doctor does not suit you. In such cases you can have a conversation with your physician and learn about the side effects of the treatment and also come up with the treatment that works for you.

Treatment of diabetes with changing lifestyle:

all you need to do is following a punctual and a disciplined way of living. Eating the right food at the right time in right quantities is a key factor. Regularly exercising and a sound 8 hour sleep will only add to the benefits.

Treatment of diabetes with medicine:

the type of diabetes, the cause and the current status are the determining factors in using medication for curing diabetes. The best way is to talk to your physician and undergo some necessary tests. He may suggest you some insulin injections and medication if you are a type I diabetic. Apart from these there are a number of oral and injection based medicines available. All of these work in a different way to either absorb, produce or use the insulin within the body. Typically, these medicines are useful when insulin is no longer produced by the pancreas.

It is important to realize that regular monitoring the sugar level is a must for diabetics. You can get it done in a laboratory or at home. All the numbers should be recorded with the date and time. Not only this, you must also record the diet plan you are taking and the kinds of exercise routine you are following. The time of the medicine may also be noted. Simultaneous record of the sugar levels during the day should be noted.

So, in order to know about your condition and treat diabetes better, live a healthy lifestyle and take necessary steps to ensure that you do your bit.
