New Technological Advancements for Cleaning Teeth
Today there are quite a few new technologies developed that have increased comfort for many people. Many dental practices have adopted these new technologies so that when you are sitting in that chair, you don't have the urge to jump up and run out the door.
One of the latest technological advancements in the dental world is the Dental Laser. A laser sounds pretty high-tech, and it is. The Diode Laser requires minimal-or no-anesthetic and is used for many routine procedures to help treat gum disease. The Diode Laser reduces mouth bleeding, as well as relieves the discomfort of canker sores, and allows the dentist to intercept gum disease at an earlier stage, often sparing people more invasive forms of treatment. The Diode Laser also eliminates the need for stitches after a surgical procedure, and can remove or reshape problem areas in the soft tissue of the mouth.
Another new advancement is Cerec 3D technology. Ceramic restorations, like crowns, inlays and onlays, can be completed in one visit. The key is the CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture) technology. Only 20 minutes is needed to make a crown in this type of machine, so patients can get fitted right away. This eliminates the need for a temporary crown and a second cementation appointment. This saves both time on working
inside the mouth, as well as the patient's valuable time.
The last notable development is sedation dentistry. Sedation methods usually meant breathing Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen. There is now a pill that you can take to avoid the side effects of the gas when doing a procedure that requires sedation. For anxious or fearful patients, this is a must. Postponing the dental visit because of fear is no longer an issue with sedation dental procedures. Patients can relax and sleep while the procedure takes place, and may not remember any of the procedure at all once they wake up. The Sedation Dentist will know how to determine the proper dosage and find out if this is an appropriate procedure for certain patients. If topical anesthetics are not enough for pain or anxiety, this may be the way to go for many people.
Patients should check with their dentist to see if these sedation options are available to them. If the anxiety and discomfort are overwhelming, there are other options and technologies to get patients in and out of the dentist's office without pain. Technology like the Cerec 3D CAD machines will definitely be a time saving essential as our time gets more valuable in today's fast-paced lifestyle. With these new technologies, dental procedures will be less of a pain”, and more a relaxing and relieving experience.
