I don't know about you, but I love Christmas decorations - seeing them as well as creating them - and this certainly includes cupcake decorations. After all, 'tis the season for a bit more ... shall we say enjoyment of treats than usual? So go ahead and have some fun decorating those cupcakes - and of course eating them!
- Start with a smattering of sprinkles - for Christmas, or any time of year, sprinkles are a quick, festive way of decorating cupcakes. Whip up a couple dozen cupcakes, using your best recipe or mix; spread on red, green or white frosting, and give 'em a nice topping of red and/or green sprinkles. Quicker than you can say andquot;Jingle Bells, andquot; you've got pretty, festive Christmas cupcakes. - Let it snow - this one's another easy, fun and simple timesaver. All you need is a batch of your favorite cupcakes, white frosting (or green, or red if you prefer) some powdered sugar and shredded coconut. You get the idea - slather on that frosting, top with coconut, dust w/powdered sugar ... sleigh ride, anyone? - Hasty, simple Christmas trees ... your local food store should have an assortment of tubed gel icing; green or red are best for Christmas (naturally) but try other suitable colors. Cover the cupcakes with white frosting and draw Christmas tree shapes on top of the cakes, using the gel icing from the store. Try simple lines and/or triangles in drawing your trees - but be more creative if you like. - This is one that will work for parties year-round - birthdays, holidays ... not just Christmas. What we're doing is creating place markers or party favors in the form of gift-wrapped packages in miniature on top of each cupcake. Vary your colors of frosting, use square/cubed candies to resemble boxes, and long, thin candy such as licorice for bows ... your name cards are made from gift tags ... can you say andquot;hit of the party?andquot; - Frosty the Cupcake - kids of all ages will love these snowman cupcakes; start with white icing, add a large marshmallow, then top that with a small marshmallow. To hold your squishy snowman together, insert a toothpick through the marshmallows, into the cupcake. For Frosty's features, an assortment of small candies (dots, beads, etc.) work best, with a dab of icing helping to hold the candies in place. - The Polar Express has nothing on us - create individual train cars, starting with Tootsie Rolls or other treats of same basic shape and size (you might need to do some trimming, such as with fruit leather or licorice.) Round candies - most any kind - are good for your train's wheels, and try black licorice strips for the tracks. Try andquot;engineeringandquot; a true train-like formation on a long platter with multiple andquot;carsandquot; in a row - what a festive centerpiece! These cupcake decorations for Christmas are sure to make you a hit with family, friends, and at holiday parties. Enjoy the creative process, and of course, the yummy results!
