Three steps to cheap travel cover
Are you planning a holiday? If you are then itandrsquo;s always a good idea to make sure you are properly covered in the case that anything should go wrong. Amazingly, nearly two thirds of Brits admit to taking out no travel insurance when they go away, while eight percent say they have never bothered. This andlsquo;it wouldnandrsquo;t happen to meandrsquo; attitude puts travellers at unnecessary risk; what would you do if you lost your passport, plane tickets, or one of your party had to have special transport home for medical reasons? Itandrsquo;s quite easy to find cheap deals to cover your travelling group, but if youandrsquo;ve never bothered before then youandrsquo;ll need a few tips to get the right deal. If youandrsquo;re looking to go abroad, then read these few tips to send you in the right direction when it comes to insurance.
Shop Around
Even before you get started on your travel insurance search, check out what your bank account or credit card provider offers. Some include annual travel insurance with their accounts, so you wonandrsquo;t need to bother shopping around for another quote. However, do make sure you check the small print of these policies andndash; itandrsquo;s worth giving the company a ring if youandrsquo;re still unsure. If you donandrsquo;t have a relevant deal, then thereandrsquo;s not many ways to get the cheapest deal other than shopping around. The Internet makes it much easier to find the deal thatandrsquo;s right for you quickly and easily, especially through price comparison websites. A couple of these will put you on track for a good quote, while typing andlsquo;travel insuranceandrsquo; into Google can also provide substantial leads andndash; make sure you at least check five different quotes according to your circumstances.
Check on Your Circumstances
While you can tailor your insurance package according to your needs andndash; such as getting ski cover and the like andndash; you will also need to consider special circumstances for your group. For instance, do you or any of your party have a history of serious illness? If the answer is yes, then the quote youandrsquo;re after can rocket upwards. Likewise, the same can happen for pregnant women and those over sixty five. However, it may still be possible to find a specialist insurer that will give you a quote which is less than traditional insurers. If worst comes to worst and you canandrsquo;t find a reasonable quote and youandrsquo;re only travelling within the EU, then get an EHIC card and find insurance for baggage loss and flight cancellation. Be warned though, an EHIC card will not always cover all medical expenses.
How Much Cover Do You Really Need?
Getting an EHIC card for the EU is fine for medical treatment, but then it wonandrsquo;t actually protect you for loss of baggage, or flight cancellation. Furthermore, not all European countries have substantial state owned hospital infrastructure, which may mean you end up at a private hospital for emergency treatment. In this case, you may have to pay in order to be treated, and in any case you may have to pay for emergency flights back to the UK. Despite these issues, itandrsquo;s important that you donandrsquo;t overpay. Itandrsquo;s extremely unlikely that your medical expenses would ever exceed more than andpound;2,000,000, while personal liability cover should be around the andpound;1,000,000 mark. Take out around this amount of cover with extra for loss of baggage or flight cancellation and you should be ready to go!
