Escaping the cold winters in England and heading to Turkey

Turkey is fast becoming a very popular holiday destination amongst Brits. This is because Turkey has some beautiful scenery, gorgeous beaches and some first class food and drink to be enjoyed by holiday makers. Turkey has a wealth of ancient cultural history as it used to be part of the Greek and Roman Empires in addition to being known as the Ottoman Empire for many centuries.

Much of the history of Turkey is visible whilst you are travelling the country and it is not uncommon to see Temples to Apollo on the side of the road and some truly magnificent mosques. One of the most outstanding sites that are worth a visit is Ephesus.

Ephesus was originally a Greek city by the sea but later became a major Roman city. However, the sea is nowhere to be seen as the waters have receded considerably and Ephesus lies amongst many hills. It is thought that Ephesus was one of the largest cities within the Roman Empire and it is believed that Anthony and Cleopatra visited the site and had a home in the city. Most of the city still remains and it contains the largest collection of Roman ruins to be found in the eastern Mediterranean.

An enormous amphitheatre can be seen when you first approach the site. You can walk around and inside the amphitheatre and see the cells underneath which is where the gladiators would be kept until their big fight. However, the Library of Celsus is the main attraction at Ephesus. It contained almost twelve thousand scrolls relating to Roman and Christian history and is a magnificent example of Roman architecture and was originally built by Gaius Julius Aquila.

The history contained within Turkey can be admired by yourself and your family whilst you are holidaying at your property in Turkey. You can take full advantage of being able to visit the country whenever you like because of your beautiful holiday home. You might not have realised that Turkey had such a rich history and how much of it was on the doorstep of the holiday property you have recently purchased.

You wonand#146;t have to worry about the weather stopping you whilst you are at your holiday home in Turkey because average temperatures for Turkey very rarely drop below the late teens even during the winter and it can reach into the forties during the summer months. Your holiday home is going to be your great escape from the cold winters in England.
