The office space vacancy rate of Calgary is around 8% and has recently dropped from higher rates. In a recent survey of options available prices started at low rates around $500 a month for smaller options. Larger spaces also abound in the area at around $1 a square foot for 1,000 square feet and above. With so many different industries it's no wonder that the area has a great deal of large scale companies.

Some of the larger companies include BP, EnCana, Shell Canada, Shaw Communications, Nova chemicals, and much more. Despite a great deal of options for job seekers to explore the area has an unemployment rate 8%. While the rate is relatively low, there are still some harder times for some job seekers. As the economy rebounds the demand for office space will rise with it.

Weather / Airport:

The climate of Calgary is quite interesting, as it has four distinct seasons with a very cold winter. The winter months usher in another part of the economic portrait. The summer months can get to near triple digit temperatures, and to contrast in the winter the lows can reach negative digits. The annual snowfall is roughly 50 inches annually.

The large airport in the area is Calgary International Airport, which is one of the larger airports in the nation. Annually the airport handles roughly 12.5 million passengers a year. It is ranked as the fourth busiest airport in Canada and is one of the larger employers in the city. The airport has received some recent improvements and a fourth concourse is in development.
