The first thing is to put yourself in the shoes of someone who may or may not need insurance. The first thing you will realize is that no one likes to be sold too.

We are programmed to say no. We are all products of our environment and our environment has taught as to be careful of salespeople. So if you are selling insurance, guess what? You are now in a group whom most people find dishonest.

There are many different types of policies. All of which, have a variety of non-comprehensible stipulations for anyone besides the agents. For this reasons, many people stand clear of everything but the norm. Anything outside the norm, and people become frightened. Sadly, many of these people are missing out on an excellent investment. Many are also potentially costing themselves thousands of dollars by not covering things that should be covered.

If you are wanting to become a successful agent and recruit people as customers, then it would be wise for you to get to know them personally very fast. You are aware of the many different types of plans most companies offer. So for instance, if you are selling boat insurances then you can asks questions like do you like to sail? Or Do you like to fish? Then you can asks questions about different types of trips that they have been on and also the different type of difficulties they may have run into on the waters. This is an excellent way to lead up to why they may or may not need boat insurance or any extra coverage they may need.

Or, lets say your are selling motor home insurance. You can start off with random questions like, Do you like camping? Do you have any fears when you go camping? Each person is different but in many cases people will tell you exactly what they need that they don't know they need.

This is a perfect way to sell without selling to people. This is also the most effective method I know. Many people know the benefits of insurance for things like health, vision, and dental. But a lot of the other types of plans go un-noticed because many aren't aware that they actually exists.
