With the festive season around the corner, there is a great opportunity for organisations looking to implement fundraising events to raise money. Christmas is the time of the year where everybody is generous, and in a happy mood. Research has shown that around the holiday season, people are more willing to donate money to charities than any other time of the year.

The other great thing about doing your fundraising efforts in the December holidays is because of the possibilities of combining your tactics with the christmas theme. Throughout the year there are always lots of great ways to raise money for your club or organisation. These can include trivia nights, movie nights, bake sales, garage sales, charity auctions, selling raffle tickets, chocolate drive, and an array of other activities.

I won't go into detail with any of them here but the opportunities are endless. While all of these activities are good, they may not provide the returns that you would get during christmas, using a christmas-themed campaign. There are a number of ideas to raise funds for your organisation over the holiday period, especially in your local community. The main thing to remember is to get organised well before christmas. There's no point coming out with your idea only a few days before santa comes down that chimney, as the lead-up is always the best time to be most effective.

One of my favourite christmas fundraising ideas is to hold an event, and link it to the festive season. For example, organise a breakfast event and call the theme 'Breakfast With Santa'. People love to embrace the chrismas holidays and you can even get someone to dress up in a Santa suit. Everyone can pay a certain amount per head and you can give all the food fun names to reflect the day. Depending on your budget and how you set up the financing, you may organise to give everyone a small gift. For your community fundraising event you need to get together with your team and brainstorm, planning things well in advance.

An arts and craft sale with a christmas theme is also a good idea. Get people in the community to make craft for the event and others can volunteer to sell tickets or organise a free venue to hold the sale. Certain items you can look to have made and sell include candles, kids toys, decorations and clothing. People will be looking for potential christmas gifts for their friends and family, which will make the sale very successful.

There are lots of great fundraising ideas for christmas. Make sure you plan early, choose an event that your "helpers" can all get involved in easily, choose a date that doesn't conflict with other events in the community, and use word of mouth the help spread the word.
