In today's business world, any business which has failed to realize the importance of being able to accept credit card payments is bound to fail. However, this also creates a problem for many business owners who own small businesses and would like the ability to take these kinds of payments. The problem revolves around all of the necessary paperwork and requirements to be able to open a merchant account. It is not all that easy and if you have a small business that has only been opened for a year or less, you will find it almost impossible.

Do not worry though; there are many ways of getting a credit card machine or merchant account for your small business. The first place that anyone should check with is directly through their business's bank. If your company has a business account with the bank, simply ask them and they may have machines available for you, but will require that you also take their debit cards too.

This is OK though. You can take debit cards from your customers. Many businesses all over the world have already begun to do this. Places like McDonalds, gas stations and of course grocery stores have been accepting both ATM and credit cards for more then a decade now.

The downfall once again though is that in the event your bank does not offer this, what other options are you left with. The good news today though is that any business can accept credit card payments with ease and without even having to open a merchant account. Whether you have an online business or even an old fashioned brick and mortar business, you can turn almost any computer with an internet access into a credit card machine.

Card readers can be found online or at any local computer shop and plug directly into the computer. Then using any of the many major online payment gateways, you can actually create a checkout page which is only accessible at the register and allows you to accept credit card payments no matter where you are. With so many possibilities today, you no longer have to worry about whether or not you will qualify for a credit card machine or merchant account. As more and more business begin to turn to online payment gateways, the merchant account services which have continued to make their services impossible to sign up for will eventually begin to lower their requirements in order to compete.

Join the technology age when you finally make the decision to accept other payments forms then just cash. There are so many possibilities today which makes this possible. This includes the ability to take ATM cards, credit cards and even the old and out-dated checks.
