Solutions To Child Behavior Problems

Article Written By: Chloe Bilboa

Add Your Picture Parenting is one of the hardest jobs on earth, and because children do not come with an instruction manual and each child is different advice from other parents may not work in the same way. There are however specialists who have worked alongside parents to teach them how they are able to solve child behavior problems so that harmony can once again in and out of the home.

It can be that your child has a problem that has already been diagnosed or is being investigated; this means that they will have a cause to their behaviour. This however does not mean that the behaviour of a child with such a condition cannot be improved by changing the way you react to the behaviour and can mean the difference between having to use medication.

When a child plays up, if you are to shout at them they will still be receiving attention even though it is not the attention you would deem as good. They are too young to determine what is good and bad when they receive attention from an adult which is why the behaviour continues.

One way to avoid this is to ignore the behaviour if they use bad language, however if they are causing harm to either themselves or others then you should take them away from the situation so that they can have time to calm down. If need be you can restrain them but only by holding them tight enough to stop them moving but not too tight so they may become hurt.

The time out method is used all over the world as an alternative to smacking, this gives both the parent and child the time they need to cool down meaning that things are not said in the heat of the moment and you can both come back to dealing with why you are not happy when you are both calmer. Depending on the age of the child you will have to decide where you want to use as the time out space, this could be anything from a rug or the bottom step of your stairwell. This means that you can adapt the time out to suit your location whether it be at home, at a friends or a bench when you are out and about. You should only leave the child for one minute for each year of their life.

If you find that the child keeps moving from the spot you put them in then you will have to return them to the place no matter how many times it takes to get them to stay there. Although this may seem hard at first you will find that it gets easier and will be worth the work.

To enforce the fact that good behaviour is acceptable when they do as asked straight away or play well with others and share you can give them a little reward to show how proud you are of them. This will mean they are more likely to show you their good side rather than their bad in the future.

Another method that is used is sticker charts. They are effective and mean that they do not get rewarded with a gift when they are good, they get a sticker which once collected to a level that is set by you, you will be able to reward them with maybe a family day out, staying up a little later to watch a film or something else they enjoy doing. You do not have to reward them with sweets, children will be just as happy to have your attention and some time with you at the park.

The lessons that your child will learn from your teachings will not only benefit you and your family as you become less stressed both in the home and out of it. You can also be sure that their concentration will be better at school meaning that they will be able to take more in. Routine is also important and also not bending rules all the time as this will cause confusion for them. The lessons you teach them will be something that they will use when they too become parents, although this may seem a long way off you can be sure that it will be useful in years to come.
