The goal of this article is to inform and inspire you to live a more environmentally aware lifestyle. We have come to take for granted the luxuries of clean water and safe food. Our indifference is contaminating our water, food, and soil. Even the air that we breathe is quickly becoming saturated with pollution. Don't think that just because you live in a rural area, that you are safe from toxic influences. Fertilizers and pesticides have leached from your soil into your water sources, contaminating dairy products, meat and garden produce.

Now that we are aware of what we've been doing to our planet, its time to make some changes in our lifestyle. Each one of us produces 4.6 pounds of waste per day, according to the EPA. Product obsolescence has trained us all into repetitive buying. Repairing or repurposing is more earth friendly. Reducing our purchasing, reusing what we already have, and recycling things back into the manufacturing stream will conserve and protect our natural resources. Less waste created means less trash in our dumps.

Walking more and driving less is good for your waisteline and for our planet. It also saves money. Vehicle and industrial exhaust are major contributors to global warming. Our dependence on foreign oil has become an economic and security risk. Drilling and mining is polluting Mother Earth and us. We do have alternatives.

Restrictions and guidelines on manufacturing are needed. We must protect the health of our planet, as well as our own. A commitment to living greener is all we have to do.

Going green is not an all or nothing lifestyle. Do a little or a lot. We can and should all do something to clean up the mess that we have created. Pollution and global warming do not have to be the legacy that we leave to our children. Try carrying your own mug to the coffee shop, and recycle those soda cans and water bottles. Cleaning with vinegar and baking soda instead of bleach and scouring powder will be better for our planet and for your health. Try eating, wearing and living with a few organic and/or reused products. You'll like the lifestyle and it can save you money, as well.

So plant a tree or two and include the three R's in your lifestyle. Mother Earth will be healthier and so will you.
