Attending a production of a show in Melbourne, or Moscow or New York might very well be enjoyable and memorable, but attending one at its home venue can be considered extra special and even personally historic.

The cultural significance is a major factor too, drawing many of those who have little interest in either history or theatre into an auditorium. It can be explained best, perhaps, by the old adage that when in Rome do as the Romans do. When in Dublin, for example, it is considered essential to visit a traditional Irish pub to get a true sense of culture, or when in New York to go to the top of the Empire State Building. So, if one is in London, even for short stay, catching a west end show is a must do since it cannot be done anywhere else.

This idea that it cannot be accomplished anywhere else has a great influence over tourists. Even if mamma mia tickets are easy to get in their home country, seeing the show in the west end is something to talk about. And although the lion king musical is a stage version of a film that few missed in 1994, it is still a spectacle for anyone to enjoy, even if there is a language barrier.
