Blockbuster movies are very popular and successful in terms of production. It even works for films which are made on very low budget, but eventually succeed and exceed the expectation of the film of the particular genre. These Hollywood blockbusters typically have a high concept theme. The thumb rule for a blockbuster is, it should have high stakes or severe consequences. It is the consequence, which has a lot of involvement of the protagonist.
One of the most important techniques that makes a Hollywood film hit is the double storyline. That means, it has a character story line and an action story line. In it?s simplest form, a personal story and a case to be solved. A character line is where we see a character developing or growing. A case or an action line is something the plot develops into a complete story.
The big blockbuster movie has always been a major part of Hollywood since it?s very earliest days. The success of these movies is never guaranteed. Nobody knows which movies will be a hit and which will be a complete disaster. This is often referred to as the magic in a bottle.
Independent filmmaking very often takes place outside of the Hollywood system, or other major studio systems. An independent film is initially produced without financing or distribution from a major movie studio. Creative, business, and technological reasons have all contributed to the growth of the indie film scene.
The costs of big-budget studio films also leads to conservative choices in cast and crew. Hollywood studios opt towards co-financing with other film production companies. Movie directors almost never get the opportunity to work a big-budget studio films unless he or she has significant industry experience. Also, the studios rarely produce films with unknown actors, particularly in lead roles.
The invention of digital cinema is changing the whole movie industry completely. The cost of film stock has always been a major problem in film production, but all this is becoming much easier now that everything is going digital.
High resolution digital cameras are becoming a lot more common, and this is breaking down barriers that once stood in a filmmakers way. The necessary tools for the whole filmmaking process can now be installed on an everyday computer. The price of movies has dropped considerably in recent years.
Even though it?s become much easier to produce and edit a whole movie on your PC, it is still difficult to find the necessary distribution. Filmmakers still go through the film festival circuit. But even this is getting easier now because of the digital revolution.
Another type of film production is the open content film. These are often produced through a collaborative process, usually with the licensed content allowing derivative works. Again, these movies exist outside the traditional Hollywood system.
