Art can take many forms but one of the most compelling and physical is performance dance. Deciding that you want to pursue a career in dance is a very bold move as you discover that it is not only a job but a way of life that can be very rewarding. Most serious students that begin with dance stay in the field throughout their lives, transforming to different areas as their situations change. Here are a few of the areas where students that began as dancers, flourished into like-minded careers.

Dancers
The dancers are the shows performers and as far as their involvement is in the production's creative side such as steps, moves and ideas, they may or may not be involvement. There are a few, who while still dancing, participate as choreographers and sometimes teachers. There are also several schools of theater and dance in the country where you can study other dance related careers.

Artistic Director
The artistic director is in charge of setting the artistic vision and direction for the dance company. Often in the dance company, the artistic director and the choreographer serve as the same person. The choreographer creates the dance pieces and also teaches the dancers different movement styles.

Technical Careers
Every great show has a lot going on behind the scenes. You will find stage hands and lighting professionals who have much to do in a short amount of time between scenes, since they are responsible for the scene changes and lighting changes which there is not much of between scenes. The production manager does the coordinating for many aspects such as lights, sets and sound while the stage manager tends to the lights and sound cues and communicating with the performers.

Administrative Careers in Theatre
A wonderful way to reach the community for fundraisers, special events and in general getting them involved and to help in performances gaining merit and public relations and grants is through theatre arts. Many dancers will put on a show for all to see what they are capable of as a form of advertisement and are happy to do it.

Documentary Careers
How fascinating to be the person responsible for videotaping all sorts such as specials, documentaries, publications or just to take the video of the dancers. The name given to those who do the reconstructing of older works is dance notator. Laban and Benesh are the main forms or notators. There is the infamous critic whose presence just seems to be felt, with people waiting to hear their opinion. Many feel that the critic should either be currently dancing or at least did so previously since they could look at it from all angles and are familiar with the emotions involved.

Yet another possibility in the dance field is to become a dance teacher. Dancers can either assist other instructors or conduct their own classes. This is a very fulfilling job, because dancers can watch younger people and children attempt to realize their own dreams of being dancers. If dancing is close to your heart and it is something that is part of your life, then there is no problem working in a field that is both enjoyable and a life's dream.
