But before you take the plunge, you must figure out in what stream of art you would like to have career. Art has many streams which include but are not limited to fine arts, performing arts, graphic designing, advertising, photography et al. There are many excellent art colleges in Massachusetts and most of them provide art education, both at the undergraduate and the graduate level. Once you have decide the art field you want to get into, you need to figure the best art college in that field.

A particular art college specializes in a particular field of art and one should try to get into the top rung colleges if one is serious about making a career in art. Some art colleges may be famous for its performing art while others may provide the best education and training in the field of advertising. You need to shortlist at least three to five colleges of your choice to safeguard your interests. Apart from the field of study, another criteria you must keep in mind while short listing an art college is the fee structure of the course as well as the geographical location of the college.

There is no point in applying to a college you know you would not be able to afford or you are not really considering seriously. Once you have shortlisted your preferred art colleges keeping the above criteria in mind, the next mot vital thing in the application process is making a good portfolio of your work according to the application guidelines. The portfolio should contain the best work ever done by you as it is a deciding factor in the admission process. But by saying so I do not mean that the statement of purpose is any less important.

One has to write a short essay on why one intends to become an artist. You should write an articulate response to the above to increase your chances of admission to your desired art college. A good art college can give you the career boost and give the world some great artists, so you need to choose judiciously, if not for yourself then at least for the world.
