Thinking out of the conventional learning box

Keeping pace with the latest and the larger than life industry demands, B schools all over the world have geared up for some serious advancement in providing niche educational courses. The crème de la crème of the Indian B schools, have incorporated several progressive initiatives.

IIM A with their strong expertise on several grounds such as technology network, grassroots level innovations and entrepreneurship development, have stimulated Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) to provide momentum to the country s budding entrepreneurs. XLRI has collaborated with National Innovation Foundation (NIF) for establishing a Research advisory council (RAC) which supports enterprises focusing on grassroots innovations.

Since the country is slowly waking up to the fact, that 'Just an MBA is not going to help, these wide assortment of courses, teach students how to think creatively and apply those ideas into their careers. These tailor made curriculums are honing leadership skills and understanding of the respective businesses, the students want to pursue.

Going a step forward and making the process of learning more application oriented, is what FIIB Delhi has succeeded in. Fortune Institute of International Business has revolutionized management learning, with the inclusion of several ground-breaking initiatives in their international business course curriculum. International study tours, accompanied by online real time classes in collaboration with business schools overseas and exposure to live international projects and case studies are few of their offerings. And that s not just it, with several seminar courses such as six sigma, e-retailing, carbon credit financing, FIIB have stepped into the unchartered territories of the future of management education.

On the international front, The Wharton School of Business with 19 majors and 200 electives lets students create their own cross functional learning paths (a maverick of sorts). Hence you can end up specializing in anything from health care to real estate to technological innovations. On the other hand, Yale School of Management through their course on 'The Practice and Management of Creativity and Innovation , assigns students to lateral thinking and encourages them to probe into the minds of the creative people – how they do it, what they do and how they think. It s imperative to mention, the US-pride, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MITs) office of Professional Education (MIT-PE) has collaborated with Lavasa to launch an executive programme in airport and airline systems.

As per these mutating degrees of management are concerned, the future of MBA doesn t look that bleak, after all. Till the time, B schools run out of all the clever tricks, stored up their sleeves, management degrees are a force to reckon with.
