Creating an Effective Study Space
Choosing the degree programs you are interested in to might be one of the most exciting and fun-filled phases of our lives. It also needs hard work and motivation to achieve academic excellence amidst all the fun. You need to create an effective learning space that is just yours, where you can concentrate the best, and which inspires you to study. How to do that?
Once you have decided to create your own learning space, makes sure that you keep it away from distractions such as loud music, blaring television, or noisy games being played outside. Create a space that allows maximum concentration and minimum disturbance because once broken, getting your rhythm back will be tough. Take the help of door signs or whiteboards to let the outside world know you’re studying and don’t care to be disturbed! While some people need absolute silence to do their coursework, some prefer to play light music in the background. Identify which method works for you and furnish your study space accordingly. Also, if you are amongst those who cannot work in long spells and need to take several breaks in between to grab a quick coffee and snack, create your study space near the kitchen.
Alternatively, you can stock up on refreshment and keep them close to you before you sit down to study to avoid frequent trips to the kitchen. It is a known fact those students who use the same space to study consistently tend to fare better in academics. So, it is advised you pick a place to study and stick to it rather than perching yourself anywhere you find some space. If you are staying in an apartment, then you can use a part of your room for this purpose or find another nook in the house which can be converted into a comfortable study shack. It’s very important to keep your study space neat and tidy in order to minimize accidents such as lost assignments or misplaced notes. A lot of schools have started issuing laptop for college students these days.
While it is a portable device, make sure you have a dedicated space for it in your study area and you don’t have to rescue it from under a pile of papers when you need it. Then make it as comfortable as you can by selecting the right sized table and chair, adequate lighting, and keeping all the necessary stationary handy. Set the temperature at a comfortable level, so you don’t have to keep changing it frequently. Also, keep a stress ball with you in case your hands start hurting from long durations of writing or typing on the computer. You need strict discipline to complete most accredited degree programs. Therefore, establish a daily study routine and follow it unfailingly. Devote a few hours in the day to study and create a set of rules to guide you through your study time. Most importantly, use your learning space to study and study alone.
It shouldn’t become a recreational spot where you surf the Internet and kill time playing computer games on the laptop your college provided.
