Careers with a Business Degree

Article Written By: MichaelB

Add Your Picture Business degrees have gained popularity over the past few years, and for good reason. The skills, knowledge, and competencies that can be provided are extremely valuable no matter which industry, field, or sector you look at. Due to the diverse nature of their competencies, holders can often find not only job satisfaction and stability, but also opportunity for growth and change.

The business degree can open up a huge number of opportunities for graduates, depending on the level of education the student pursues, as well as the coursework and field emphases she chooses.

At the undergraduate level, you can choose to pursue either an associate s or bachelor s degree. It takes approximately two years to finish, but some colleges will allow you to complete it in as few as 15 months. This means that you could save money and time, and even begin to start looking for employment that much sooner.

The program is designed to build a foundation in the areas of marketing, sales, HR, investment, entrepreneurship, accounting, law, etc. You can also choose to pursue an associate s degree with an emphasis in property management, retail sales management, or event planning. Careers that require it at the associate s level include administrative support workers, purchasing managers, corporate buyers, purchasing agents, etc.

The bachelor s degree takes approximately four years to complete, but some colleges will allow you to complete it in as few as 36 months. It provides in-depth instruction in the areas of marketing, sales, HR, investment, entrepreneurship, accounting, business law, investment principles, advertising, organizational development, international business, business law, and more. Undergraduate business degree holders earned an average of $41,000 annually as of 2009, and are qualified to pursue entry- to mid-level employment in positions such as account managers, small business developers, sales managers, human resource assistants, etc.

Business management schools offer bachelor s degrees with various emphases that are in tune with current employment trends and changing corporate demands. For example, the degree in business with a human resources emphasis responds to the world-wide revamping of corporations in terms of employee benefits, rights, and relationships with employers. An emphasis in new media marketing produces graduates who are equipped to meet and capitalize on the social media boom, hence serving as assets to their prospective organizations. A technology emphasis can give you the synthesized skill set of an IT professional and a management graduate, allowing you to succeed in a corporate setting that is increasingly dependent on technology.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, MBA holders received starting offers averaging between $49,875 and $81,571, depending on education, experience, and location.

Business degrees from accredited, reputable colleges and universities could help you earn the credentials, knowledge, and experience required to gain employment, climb up the corporate ladder, or successfully start your own business. Want to invest in your future? Consider getting a business degree.
