Windows 7 Registry - The God Father
Everybody knows about features of latest Windows 7, but have you ever thought that who should be actually credited for it? What causes the Jump list, Aero features and Home Group to launch in a smooth way? It s nothing, but Windows 7 registry. It is the actual place, which contains the whole information and settings pertaining to operating system, application software and hardware configuration, and functionality. So if there is any mild disturbance in it, your system and associated network could be in danger.
In case of any need to tweak the registry you need to open Registry Editor. You can easily access it by clicking on Start, Opening Search bar, typing regedit in it and hitting Enter key. You will get the User Account Control dialog box, which will ask you to enter your password for authentication purpose. After that, you will get a window divided into right and left pane. Right pane is also called the setting pane, as it consists of setting of different registry keys. Again, it has been sub divided into three columns as Name, Type, and Data.
Under the Name section you get the name of the setting, Type presents the type of data included, and Data gives information about value of each setting.
The left pane of Windows 7 registry editor shows the Root Keys that are involved. These are setting specific, means each Root Key is accountable for specific role. Root Keys has been subdivided into five sections as:
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT: It contains data related to file extensions and associated programs.
• HKEY_CURRENT_USER: contains setting of data, which is accountable for the application on which user is working currently. In addition, it handles network connection as well.
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE: It holds non-user-specific configuration data for your system s Hardware and applications.
• HKEY_USERS: Store the settings for users with group policies defined, as well as the Default settings
• HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG: It holds settings for the current hardware profile.
So, depending upon the situation, where you need to modify your registry settings you can proceed. Windows 7 registry gets corrupted by frequent installation and un-installation of programs and is most vulnerable towards computer viruses and other malicious threat.
Unfortunately, if you got in trouble with your Windows 7 registry then, it is recommended to make use of suitable registry cleaner software like RegCure and CleanMyPC Registry Cleaner, which are available online. Don t jump into Registry Editor Section, if you don t have a thorough knowledge of it. However if it becomes essential, then call your tech support provider, who can fix it remotely.
As a preventive measure you must equip your computer with compatible antivirus software, so that computer viruses and other threat can t get access to your Windows 7 registry.
