Windows 7: Pros and Cons

You must have heard lots of good things about the new Windows OS, the revolutionary Windows 7. People have been raving and ranting about it since it became available, and it does appear that all these are not merely hype or totally baseless; there really is much to see and expect with Windows 7.

For one thing, Windows 7 is a feast to the eyes with its interactive and user-friendly interface.

It automatically organizes your icons in a way that makes it easier for you to access what you need. Windows 7 does not have a Sidebar which enables you to move or resize the icons with ease.

Windows 7 has an Action Center that basically monitors information and warns you accordingly without the annoying pop-ups one often experiences with XP or Vista when installing two-bit applications.

The new OS is also more secure in the sense that cracking or breaking into it would prove to be difficult if not impossible. Interestingly, Win7 comes with a PSR or Problem Steps Recorder which enables you to keep track of what you re doing. It s easy to use, too – all is needed to do is to click start and key in psr, and the tool does its thing. When you re through, the PSR gives you an MHTL file that you can then upload to Internet Explorer.

The search feature of Windows 7 is truly amazing, definitely a big improvement to XP s and even Vista s, and the results are quick and accurate. Making a search can be done on the Start menu, Control Panel or Windows Explorer.

Controlling your devices such as your printer, MP3 player, keyboard, mouse, fax machine, phone, or anything else that you plug into your computer can also be done with ease as the controls can be found in just one location – the Device Stage.

If Windows XP has My Documents, Windows 7 takes pride in its Win7 Libraries – and for good reason. Why, because this feature makes it so much easier to track down your files as they are more organized and appropriately placed where they are supposed to be.

Another great feature of Windows 7 is HomeGroup that makes sharing of files, printers and anything else easier.

On the other hand, before you run to the nearest computer store to upgrade your system to Windows 7, see to it that your PC can handle the demands of this new OS; otherwise you may not be able to fully appreciate the functionality of Windows 7.

Keep in mind, though, that if your PC is quite old already, it would not be wise to upgrade its hardware just so it will be compatible with Windows 7.
