Time is the essence of efficiency and productivity in today s current environment. In this area, Time Attendance Recording Systems have come in vogue and are in widespread use in practically all organizations and establishment all over the world. It is the main criteria for gauging efficiency of employees in any office.

Increasing Efficiency Levels

Efficiency and productivity are the hallmarks of any industry throughout the world. It may be an office, a manufacturing unit or any other establishment. Every organization strives to achieve both these criteria in order to maintain optimum levels at all times. In a manufacturing unit, production forms a major activity where producing goods as per the targets set are attained. Similarly, in an office, each department pursues activities that are progressive for the organization.

The attendance of employees is extremely crucial for activities related to employees efficiency and worker s productivity. An attendance of an employee is determined by both 'in and 'out timings. An employee is required to work for a stipulated number of hours during the day and time attendance is necessary to maintain the efficiency of the employees.

Maintenance of Efficiency

There are several methods of maintaining the efficiency of employees. The attendance register was one of the old methods where employees marked their attendance by signing and mentioning the time of entry as well. However, technologically, Attendance Recording Systems were considered to be reliable means of time attendance to mark attendance of employees. A large number of manufacturers produced electronic attendance recording systems.

These systems are linked to a central computer located inside the office. An employee is issued an electronic bar code card with his name, his employee code and department code. On entry, the employee swipes his card and moves in and while moving out he again swipes his card. The central computer operates on time attendance software, which immediately picks up the data on the employee and registers his time of entry and exit. The time attendance software is resident on the central computer system.

Advancements

In the current scenario, with technological advances, these systems have become obsolete as ultra modern systems do not require an employee to even swipe his card, rather the systems have an in-built face recognition software where the systems identifies the employee by his face. In this way, an employee personally has to come before the system, where his face is matched with his photograph available in the office records.

There is no doubt that face recognition is one of the most well advanced techniques and is a fool proof system. Hence, there is no chance of proxy attendance where any employee could swipe another employee s card. The access control to the central data base and the attendance data of an employee is available only with authorized personnel in the organization. Access control can not in any way be permitted to any other employee or department.

An employee maintains his attendance and cannot afford to play truant. The data of the employee is absolutely clean and without any ambiguities. Attendance Recording Systems have become one of the most powerful tools for any organization to keep a stringent check on the employee s punctuality and efficacy. Therefore, organizations throughout the globe are presently reaping the benefits of the modern technology.
