An SD card is a highly useful device that can drastically improve the usefulness of a range of already very practical devices. For instance if you have a phone or an mp3 player and you want to get more out of them, then by inserting an SanDisk Extreme Pro CF you can give them more space and thus have more applications and/or music on them. However this can also mean that we become quite dependent on them – we have become used to having the extra space on our phone, that we maybe have some photos that don't have any backups anywhere, or you spend hours making sure you have the exact right thousand songs on it. All this means that when you put the card into your computer and it doesn't work this can be a little bit dismaying. So if this happens how can you get it working again? In some cases of course it's not possible, but in others it is possible to kick start it back into action. For instance if you have any dirt or mess of any sort on the metal contacts that connect to your computer or electrical devices, then this can prevent them from conducting the electricity as they are meant to and thus prevent them from working. So a good first thing to try is simply to wipe down that part of the SanDisk Extreme Pro CF with the hope that you clear whatever it was that was blocking the contacts. Try using a cloth or tissue to prevent getting finger prints on it.Another common problem however is that you may simply have got the write-protect on your SD card. If you seem to be able to view the contents of the card, but can't drag new ones on to it then this may be the case. To check – try pulling the SanDisk Extreme Pro CF out of the memory card slot in your device and then looking at the switch down the side. This will slide back and forth and one position will turn on the write protection. Try switching it both ways and checking that it works to rule out this potential problem. If this still doesn't solve the problem then you can also try deleting all of the contents off of the card in order to start again. In some cases this can help to solve the problem – and particularly if the problem is actually just being caused by the SanDisk Extreme Pro CF.Failing this unfortunately you will likely have to replace your memory card with a new one and this might mean losing all of your old data. As a precaution then it is a good idea to always have some kind of back up of your SD card, just as you would have some kind of back up of your data on your computer. This way should anything go wrong with your card and should you find yourself without one, you will nevertheless be able to retrieve your data.
