A 64GB SD card is a highly useful and highly resilient tool that lets you store what can sometimes seem like more data than you will ever need. Then on top of this is the fact that they're so small and so easily portably, and all this means that they have a huge range of applications. However at the same time the fact that they're so small and portable and that they are so regularly used means that they are in constant danger of being damaged and broken. A 64GB SD card is only really useful up until the point where it no longer can be used by anything and once it can no longer be read by your digital appliances it suddenly becomes just a piece of plastic... So how do you go about looking after a 64GB SD card or any other SD card for that matter?Well first of all it's very important to make sure that you protect the metal contacts on the back of it. These are the parts that connect to your computer or electronic device and that your SD card needs to be able to communicate. If they then get scratched or get covered in dirt, this will no longer come into direct contact with the device and will no longer conduct the electricity in order to convey and transfer information. Thus it will then become useless and will no longer work.If you think this may be what is causing the problem with your SD card then try wiping the contacts and see if this makes any difference. Of course best of all though is to protect the contacts on your SD card in order to prevent them getting scratched or dirty in the first place, and you can do this by keeping them in a plastic container. Normally these come with the cards when you buy them but you can also order them individually online. At the same time you need to ensure that you still avoid getting it unnecessarily dirty or scraping it unnecessarily. For instance if you're going to the gym – leave it at home, and when you are handling it avoid touching the contacts which would otherwise potentially transfer dirty fingerprints.Another important tip though refers to how you go about using it. One thing that can help is to ensure that you always prepare the hardware to be removed before you take it out. To do this find the icon at the bottom of your screen and right click on it to select 'safely remove hardware'. This way you ensure not to damage the storage on the card when you pull it out. It might seem like a minor inconvenience – but suffice to say that it is much more of an inconvenience to have to purchase a new card.Eventually your card will deteriorate still and you will need to buy a replacement 64GB SD card, however by following these guides you can maximise your investment and make your card last as long as possible.
