How to Use a 64 GB SD

Article Written By: stevemckarmik

Add Your Picture A 64GB SD card is a small memory storage device that can be slotted into a range of electronic devices such as phones, computers, netbooks, digital photo frames, cameras and MP3 players as a way to increase the memory on them. They are relatively simple to use, though their small size and delicate appearance can make them a little daunting the very first time.

When you receive the card you will notice that it has on one side a set of metal connection points. This is the point where the computer and the card interface and so it's important that you keep this part clean and avoid it getting scratched as doing so might mean you're unable to access your data. This then is also the part that you need to insert into your computer and the part that you will need to ensure is fully inserted and secured before you can begin use (likewise when using your flash card with other devices).

On a PC you will need to look for your SD card slot which will be a flat hole approximately the same width as your card. It may have a small SD card logo underneath it or you will have to identify it yourself. When you insert your card now, make sure you do so with the pins going in first and with the card facing downwards, then push it all the way to the end. In some cases it will 'click' into place and completely disappear into the machine, while in others it will have the end sticking out.

To remove the flash card meanwhile pull the end if it is visible, or otherwise push it further in with your nail or the tip of your finger so that it 'clicks' back out again. Before you do this though you must be careful to first select 'uninstall hardware' on your computer by right clicking on the logo at the bottom right of your screen on the task bar. This prepares the card to be removed and by taking this precaution you can prevent your card from getting damaged and thus increase its lifespan.

When inserting your card into other devices you will often find it's similarly a matter of just finding a slot on the side. Where this isn't the case, then the card will often be stored where the battery/batteries are located. On the camera this means the bottom right corner, while on phones it's often on the back behind a protective case and you may find you need to remove rechargeable battery in order to insert and remove it. Make sure that your device is off before you do this. Both computers and other devices should automatically recognise the 64GB SD card and let you access the contents.
