Storage capacity in computers and other digital devices is a highly important thing to look for. When you have a computer or a phone or a PDA, the storage capacity represents how many music tracks, documents, programmes and more you could fit onto your device. If you had a smart phone for instance that had a small amount of space you would find yourself unable to store as many media files so you wouldn't be able to watch films on the train, and might only be able to have one or two games to play during your commute to work.

You wouldn't be able to listen to as much music and would have to have just the same few tracks on repeat, and you wouldn't be able to take so many photographs before your phone started to get full. In some cases if your phone comes with particularly small amounts of internal memory, you can find yourself having to delete your old messages in order to receive new ones whenever they come in.

Fortunately that's where expansive memory comes from. Using a 64GB SD card, you can increase the amount of storage space on your phone and you can this way enjoy far more from your phone. But what does a 64GB SD card really mean for your phone? How much is 64GB anyway?

The best way to compare this first of all is to compare it to the amount of space on your PC. Likely, if you have a laptop of desktop computer, this will have quite a lot of internal storage on its hard drive. If you bought this in the last few months or years this is likely to be 200+ Gigabytes all the way up to a terabyte maximum. That's a lot of storage for sure, but when you look at it, your 64GB SD card is a quarter of that size and is far smaller and much cheaper.

By putting your card into your phone then, you give yourself a quarter of your computer's storage on top of what was built into the phone – and that's a lot. So imagine how many films and videos you can get onto your computer and then take a quarter of that and that's what you can get onto your phone. In fact this isn't even true – you can probably get a greater number of files onto the same amount of space for your phone. The reason for this is that the operating system takes up much less space and is stored internally (unlike your computer, a vast portion of which is taken up by the OS).

At the same time things like film files are all going to be much smaller because of the smaller screen size, so you can fit many more on. Even the apps are going to be much smaller in size so you can have many more on your phone at any one time.

In terms of songs, most MP3 files are around 3-10 megabytes. So if we say 5 is average, and then say that we have 65,536 megabytes available (there are 1,024 megabytes in a gigabyte) that's 13,107 and a bit songs you could fit on there... not bad.
