Choosing Your Backup System

Article Written By: stevemckarmik

Add Your Picture There are many ways that you can find yourself losing or damaging your important files, whether these are personal documents or important files for a business, and in any of these cases you can find yourself in trouble and certainly unable to replace them if you haven't backed them up. Here we will look at some of the methods you can use to back up files and which are the best.

The first method is to use a flash memory card. Here we have suggested a 64GB compact flash as this will provide you with a very large amount of memory while being a very small and relatively inexpensive item. With 64GB that is likely more space than you are ever going to need to keep your documents certainly, and this will also allow you to carry your files with you. For 64GB of portable hard drive you would be looking at paying a lot more, and while a 64GB compact flash may be a little more delicate, the great thing is that you can buy two.

Online backup is a great way to back up all of your data and then to be able to access it from wherever you are. By storing your data online you can be sure that even if your house were to burn down and you were to lose all of your devices, you would still have the data stored somewhere safely. There are various kinds of online storage you can use in this manner – and it is possible either to store your data on a 'proper' online storage service, or to simply e-mail files and items you want to keep to yourself.

A portable hard drive offers a lot of different feature and is a very reliable form of data storage (not to mention providing you with perhaps more space than any of the others). The only downsides are the price and the relative size which can make it cumbersome. However for making a physical backup of your own hard drive and keeping it up to date it is perhaps the best option.

Finally you don't necessarily always have to look to a 64GB compact flash card or a piece of software in order to store your files and sometimes there's nothing wrong with a good old fashioned hard copy. Got important legal documents to keep? Print them out and file them away. Got nostalgic old photos you want copies of? Print them out, frame them and put them somewhere on display. This time even if your electronic systems fail you you will still be able to retrieve the data or memory.

Of course all of these forms of data backup work perfectly but there is one much better option than any of those. That is? To use all of them in tandem.
