This includes beta testing and, often times, parallel testing.

Beta testing is a dry run when you know errors will occur but want to see how efficient functionality is up to that point. Does it do what is expected? Is it consistent? Does it meet your expectations? The client should take extensive notes of feedback to give to developers with any problems or glitches you may encounter.

Parallel testing is done when you replace an older application with a new one. This type of testing calls for running through your processes TWICE, once in each system. You are testing to see if you get the same results from both systems. Do you see improvements or the corrections in question? Anytime an application is replaced, it is imperative to run a parallel test. To go directly into production with an untested application is Drupal web development suicide.
