Secondary containment tanks: Stay Immune from Dangers

Article Written By: ricnannaette

Add Your Picture There are scores of work units out there that deal with potentially harmful substances on daily basis. Gasoline, oil etc can cause no harm under normal circumstances. However, they can cause damage beyond one's wildest imaginations if spilled. Needless to say, once the damage is done, one can't do much about the loss. Therefore, it pays to prevent spillage of gasoline, oil and other chemicals in the first place. Fortunately, secondary containment tanks have been formulated for this sole purpose.

Today, there are various kinds of secondary containment tanks available in the market. They all address the issue of spill prevention. The frame of the secondary containment tanks offers chemically resistant PVC liners with aluminum frames or sturdy steel. These containment tanks will make sure that all the potentially hazardous substances are stored safely without causing spills. Imagine what would happen if one of the trucks carrying some forms of hazardous material meet up with an accident. The road would be literally soaked with the hazardous materials due to spillage.

Needless to say, such a situation will give rise to environmental issues and also endanger the lives of people around the accident scene. Although such instances are rare, one can't discount the fact that even a single misfortunate incident can have devastating effects. Not every truck on the road is loaded with chemical substances, but those trucks that carry hazardous substances should consider secondary spill containments to stay immune from dangerous outcomes.

There are various rules and regulations in place which states that hazardous substances must be protected by secondary containment systems. All the secondary containment tanks are required to have a strong foundation and a leak detection system along with drainage system to remove leaks. Spilled substances must be removed within 24 hours or sooner.

While the investment on secondary containment tanks might prove to be a costly affair, this investment will pay for itself in the long run. Industrialists who are aware of this fact do not hesitate to spend money on secondary containment tanks. After all, prevention of expensive spills can save one hundreds and thousands of dollars.

Companies dealing with hazardous materials are expected to abide by the laws governing secondary spill system to avoid harmful omission of hazardous substances in the environment. Companies that fail to abide by the rules and regulations are charged a hefty fine.

Not only the environment needs to be protected, the people dealing with these hazardous substances need protection as well. Therefore, one should consider secondary containment tanks while dealing with hazardous substances. Needless to say, people who are already enforcing all kinds of precautionary measures might have already benefited in one way or the other.
