Explosion Proof Enclosures Key to safety

Explosion proof enclosures are products that have an electrical shock and have been solely designed as a protection against lighting hazards like fire blowups. These enclosures can be built of various kinds of components. Amongst these the normally used components are aluminum, fiber glass and heavy duty steel. Explosion proof enclosures are highly used at many important sites like oil refineries, paint factories and gas stations. Explosions in the electric meshes are usually caused due the formation of the fire triangle. The fire triangle is formed by three elements. These are the ignition point or the spark, oxygen and fuel. When these three are bind in a particular ratio, electrical explosion takes place.

To stay within the normal safety limits, the volume ratio of the fuel to the oxygen must not go above the volume ratio prevailing between the usual explosive point of the fuel, and the source of ignition. On exceeding the ratio, a spark in the energy occurs, causing ignition in the fire triangle mixture. The explosion proof enclosures aid in eradicating the potential explosion chance by removing all the ignition sources from the site. An enclosure that is internationally registered as having all explosion resistant traits must be used for the purpose. The explosion resistant enclosures work by resisting all the three internal forces which might otherwise accumulate in causing a fire blow ups.

An explosion proof enclosure requires being in a specific layout and pattern. An organized design will check that hot gases to pass through the ventilation systems which will allow the electric arrangement to stay cool, at a temperature below the dangerous ignition point, in case, there is some hazardous fuel. This is the reason why the enclosures are made using hard components like cast steel and aluminum. The enclosures also need to have ample flanges. The rims should be stuck to the finish and should posses a good acceptance.

The explosive proof enclosures in accordance with the threaded cover will establish long and narrow paths. The potential hazardous hot gases will pass through these thread tubes, giving up the heat to the metal, and in the process reducing the explosive force. However, the cover bolts of the enclosure must be well torque to the suggested value. Also, it is to be kept in mind that the ejection surfaces of the explosion proof enclosure remains protected throughout from scratches. This is because, if the torque is not rightly generated and the projected surfaces are broken, then the resultant hot gases will pass away. Besides, the chances of explosion will become more if the outside atmosphere of the enclosure is prone is explosion.

This is the reason why, the explosion proof enclosures are always exist in almost every kind of factory. Each electrical component has its own qualities and thus the enclosures needed for different functions are labeled accordingly, also keeping in mind the environmental rules set up by the National Electrical Code or as per the IEC Standards.
