Five Advantages that POS Systems Have for a Retail Business

Article Written By: Kathryn Dawson

Add Your Picture Any business owner will admit that running a business involves a lot of stress. However, they will also testify that the number of things to worry about have been drastically reduced thanks to the development of modern point of sale, or pos, systems, which can calculate and communicate a large number of aspects with a high level of accuracy.

Traditionally, a proprietor had to calculate the sales for a day, check the stock levels, ensure sales orders were fulfilled on time, or were at least on track to be, and then ensure that every detail was noted. However, the range of capabilities that these new systems have include each of these aspects, serving as a store of information as well as providing detailed and extremely accurate figures.

As well as typically including stock estimation and sales trend reports amongst their services, a sales order processing system can ensure that a business stays on top of its commitments to customers. Meanwhile, the convenient designs and user friendly functions of some new hardware models, such as touch screen epos, greatly reduces the risk of errors.

One of the main advantages is the accuracy of the system in every aspect of its function. It is always possible for a staff member to make a mistake when entering a price, but because modern point of sale systems have every price already inputted, there is no need to think about the figure itself. The ability to choose an item by touching the screen also saves confusion. This is particularly true in green grocers or cafes, for example, where specific items are easily identifiable and various combinations are almost infinite.

When it comes to providing a sales order, the customer will always appreciate speed. So, having a system that can produce the sales order on the spot is ideal. The systems available today can list specific details on the document with the press of a button, and then print it out for the customer. The details, of course, refer to the repair work to be done, or specifics of a design to be completed, as well as a simple list of items that are to be delivered at an agreed time and place on a specific date.

For multi store businesses, the ability to enter just one set of prices for all of the business branches carries huge advantages. After all, having price inconsistencies between the individual stores is hardly going to win favours amongst customers. Modern point of sales systems are linked together, so that an official change in price entered in one store is immediately noted and applied everywhere. It means no confusion amongst customers who might see the same item at two different prices in two different branches, and also means less headache in keeping the company accounts as one branch will never be slower than the others.

Speaking of the accounts, a significant amount of time can be spent calculating and recalculating takings for the day, business done during the month, orders made from suppliers and orders taken from customers as yet to be completed or even paid for. The headache can be quite intense, but the fact that all of this information is now stored in the point of sale system means that it is always at hand. So, the sales made for the day, the list of items sold, their consequential effect on stock levels, profit margins and expenditure can all be attained without hours trawling through the books.

Confidence and convenience are two of the key words that can be associated with the new systems. Whether it is the convenience provided by touch screen epos or the confidence that the sales order processing system provides by ensuring the business is not falling behind its obligations, life is made a lot easier by modern point of sales systems.
