Project management support presents its own unique challenges. You have to organize the efforts of a large team, some of whom might not be under your direct authority. This requires a vast pool of knowledge and expertise. You need someone who understands the project environment, has general management knowledge and skills, good communication and organization, and a strong and motivating personality.

When you hire a project management support leader, you're not hiring a hall monitor. You are hiring a motivator. Remember, these people will come from outside of your company and will likely not have direct authority over your employees. It's important they have the personality to inspire and lead. The goal is to get the team working together. The first step is to unite your employees and make them a team. A likeable personality will get far more accomplished than slave-driving, authoritative demands.

While no 2 projects are alike, they often share similarities that make it possible to learn a great deal when it comes to strategies. PMO support can be quantitative according to results, so you know what works and what doesn't. A PMO leader has experience working on a variety of projects in any number of scenarios, so they can best find the strategies that will prove most successful to your project.

These techniques centered on PMOBOK approved strategies, so you don't need to reinvent the leader. All you need to do is organize your leadership so that your team works together for the good of the goal.
