Great Pool Heaters from Blue Now:
In the long winter months, our favorite swimming pool remains neglected and unused. Most of us opt to neglect the pool or keep it covered over the winter months. However, with various kinds of pool heaters available these days, it is actually quite easy to use your pool even in winter. Pool heating appliances are installed to make the water of the pool warmer.
There are three main types of pool heaters, classified by fuel type:
1.Solar heaters: It is a very popular option as it is cost and energy-effective. However, one must check its usage, capacity and efficiency, according to the size of the pool. The customer must also compare prices and the manufacturers? reputation before investing in a solar heater.
The heater works by forcing the pool water through a filter into a solar collector, which traps the heat of the sun. the water is heated and then its pumped back into the pool. It works better if you have a solar cover for your pool.
2.Gas pool heaters: These heaters use natural gas or propane to operate the heater?s combustion cavity. The water from the pool is forced through a filter and then to the heater, where the heat is passed onto the water and then the heated water is pumped back into the pool. These heaters are quicker and more efficient than solar heaters and allows us to control the degree of heat and retain it for a long time.
3.Heat pump heaters : These contain a fan that draws air and passes it onto an evaporator coil. A liquid refrigerant present in this coil turns the air into gas which is passed through a heat-producing compressor.
4.Electric : This kind of heater is great for maintaining the internal temperature between 80 and 90 degrees. Even if it is 45 degrees outside ,the electric heaters will heat enough to allow you to have a warm and comfortable swim. However, it will lead to a huge electricity bill.
Facts to consider about heating a pool:
1.BTU ? this means British Thermal Unit and it measures the quantity of heat which is required to raise the temperature of a measure of 1 lb. of water to 1 degree F.
2.1 Therm of Natural Gas = 100,000 BTUs.
3.1 Gallon of Propane = 91,000 BTUs.
4.The weight of 1 Gallon of Water is 8.33 lbs.
5.If you want to calculate how to convert 1 gallon of LP (propane gas) to therms, then multiply the cost-per-gallon X 1.0989.
6.The size of the heater matters. The Larger -a heater the better its performance and efficiency as compared to a small one. Most manufacturers' suggest that you purchase a heater that is one size larger than your basic requirement for the pool.
7.Knowing the pool size is essential to get the right heater. To find out the area of the surface of your pool, just multiply its length by its width.
8.The water temperature of the pool will depend entirely on your desires. Usually the water is maintained between 78 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. It is sensible to choose a temperature based on the outside temperature.
9.Outside temperature is a major factor affecting the pool temperature. Try to find out the average temperature of the coldest month of pool use. To calculate the temperature rise that you need, just subtract the outside temperature from the desired temperature that you want.
10.The Heater size is measured in BTUs and to calculate the approximate BTU for your pool, just multiply the surface area (in square feet) to the temperature rise by 12, like- (Pool Area x Temperature Rise x 12). This equation should work fgor you, with the assumption that there is a1 degree Fahrenheit rise in temperature per hour.
