Article Written By: James Copper

Add Your Picture Although many people may not admit it, plumbing is one of the most important professions in the United Kingdom. This is especially considering the number of new housing units that are being put up every day. For you to become a certified plumber, you need to enrol in one of the many plumbing apprenticeships that are spread across the country.

Plumbers do not work for the domestic installations only. Their services are also applicable in the construction industry. Normally, they are involved in the laying of underground drainage pipes and also installation of sanitation systems. Considering how the world is changing, the plumbing jobs are now actively getting involved in promotion of environmentally friendly technologies like the use of solar heaters as well as rain water harvesting.

If you are interested in a career as a plumber, there are a number of factors that you need to bear in mind before you jump into this career. The first thing that you should note is that plumbing is a physically challenging job.

Unlike what you would expect in a white collar job where you will be sitting behind a computer the whole day, plumbing may require you to use a lot of your physical energy to get the work done. On the other hand, at one point you will be required to work in all sorts of environments. These environments include at construction sites and in heights during all sorts of weather conditions. This means that you should always be ready to handle different challenges that come with the job.

There are many things that you are going to learn as a plumbing apprentice. The first of these things is how to install and maintain plumbing systems and their components. In addition to the apprenticeship, you are also going to be required to enrol in certificate course on basic plumbing. This certificate is going to ensure that you have covered the fundamental elements of the plumbing trade. Some of these include hot and cold water systems, safety, central heating and sanitation.

Finally, it is important to mention that as you advance and gain more experience, you will be required to learn more complicated skills. These will include such things as how to work with gas. Once you have completed the plumbing course and apprenticeship, the salary that you are going to be earning will depend on where you work and the size of the project you will be handling as well as who you are working for. However, the salary of a plumber can range anywhere between and#163;17,000 and and#163;31,000 per annum.
