Certified professionals almost always receive jobs over non-certified professionals and almost always command higher salaries.

I received my project management certification after twenty years as a medical device sales representative. As I grew older, I found that it was increasingly hard on me to travel in order to do my job. When my company began to expand I began to see the need for more managers to manage the growing sales staff. I took this as my opportunity to get off of the road.

I started taking online classes at night, because I could complete the coursework using my personal laptop no matter where I stopped for the night. Since the program was geared towards busy professionals who are currently involved in their careers, I was able to complete my coursework and obtain my certification in no time.

Since I was the only one in my department that had a project management certification, I was the most qualified for the new sales manager position that opened up. Now I'm off the road for good and making a higher salary than I ever would have.

Having a certification in today's highly competitive job market can help you stand out in the sea of applicants and set you apart as a professional who cares about their discipline and who is actively managing their career success. With a project management certification you will have the proof that you can walk the walk and talk the talk.
