Is It Time For A Career Change? 5 Signs it is Time to Move On.

Article Written By: James Copper

Add Your Picture You may be tottering on the decision whether to make a change in your career or to just stay put. Chances are, if the thought has even crossed your mind, then there are some aspects to your current working situation that are causing you concern. In order to decide whether you will be better off staying or going, consider the following reasons that signal it is time for a change:

1. The outlook for the future is stormy. The economy has affected nearly every type of business in the country. If you are trying to hold out for things to get better, you may be wasting your time and effort. Depending on the type of company you are working for, it may be unrealistic to think that it is going to "bounce back" after the economy improves. As yourself is you are in a business that is in high demand or if it has been replace by alternatives that are cheaper or more economical. If you have your doubts, move to a career that has a brighter outlook.

2. Companies in your field of expertise are hiring. You may stand to gain better pay, more and improved benefits, a shorter commute, onsite daycare, etc. by moving to a different company. If there are a lot of companies in the field hiring, then they are selling a product or service that is in high demand. Don't miss your opportunity to shop around for the one with the most to offer.

3. You don't feel secure at your current job. Whether you are next on the list to be layed-off or you never know what your boss is going to do from day-to-day, then you may be expecting the unexpected at any time. Not knowing if someone's mood swings or a small shift in the company's bottom line is going to leave you without a job at any time, then you may want to look elsewhere. You will be taking a chance whether you stay or not.

4. You've already been layed off. Instead of waiting to be called back in to work, take advantage of the opportunity to look into other companies where you may be qualified to work. You will have the time to apply, go in for interviews, and shop around for something that offers you more security than you are likely to have if you do return to the same company.

5. Your workplace is stressful. Not the kind of stress that comes with the coffee pot tearing up once a week. The type of stress that exists when there are co-workers who are constantly bickering or a boss is always on a rampage. Stress can cause a lot of different illnesses and it just isn't worth it when you have other options. Find out if you do.

One of the biggest factors you should consider before changing careers is what you might have to lose. Sometimes the price is much greater than you are likely to make up for with another job.
