How to tell if a job opportunity is for you
With the way the economy is in the UK many people are currently looking for new jobs. Although it may seem discouraging, take this time in your life and use it as an opportunity. Many people work in jobs that they are somewhat satisfied with and never go for what they really want because they have the safety net of a job. Now that your safety net is gone, essentially so is your risk. Use this time to find the job you have always wanted. While the opportunities may not be countless, they are out there. And, a good company will recognize your value if you are willing to put the effort forth to find a job.
In order to be successful in this type of job approach, consider going about your job search a little bit differently than normal. Most people search for jobs hoping that a company will choose them. However, try looking for jobs hoping to choose the right company for you. You have the power to determine your destiny. And, it may all come down to determining which job opportunity is the right one for you. Here are some suggestions to help you make your decision:
Personal Qualifications Valued Over Experience
The right job will value what you bring to the company personally. You want to "fit". Everyone has experience, and the truth is, most jobs require on the job training anyway. A great company will not hire someone who meets a checklist of requirements. Instead, they will hire someone that blends well with their company.
A Timely Opportunity
Is it the right time for you to begin working with the company? How are they doing as a company? One of my friends left his stable job at a big accounting firm to work for one of his clients as their tax director. Obviously the offer was great. However, he chose to work for a home building company that went bankrupt. Considering the state of the economy, this was not something someone could not have predicted. So, learn from a mistake like this. Make sure the opportunity happens at the right time.
What Motivates You?
Everyone is motivated by something. Are you motivated by money, power, passion, etc? Does the job opportunity fulfill these motivational desires? If not, chances are, you might end up unhappy.
Take these tips into consideration when determining whether or not to accept the job offer. Hopefully, the one you accept will be the job you've been waiting for!
