Finding a job in the Netherlands can be just as easy or hard as finding a job in any other country, but can be made harder with the language barrier. But hopefully you either know can speak Dutch or are looking for a company works in English. To find work in Holland and the Netherlands you will need to use many different techniques as the job market is very competitive. If you use a good deal of these methods then you shouldn’t find the job hunting process to hard. Dutch companies are pretty good at quickly replying to e-mails and take all applications seriously.

Internet

The first step in your job hunting should be the Internet. The web is the fastest and cheapest method for finding a job. There are plenty of sites and job boards that will post new jobs abroad regularly and if you add your details and CV you can be notified about specific jobs in your desired sector or area of the Netherlands when they become available. Also do not forget about companies themselves. All good businesses will have company websites that they will post job positions that you can check and apply through.

Personal Contacts

Presuming you have friends or family in the Netherlands as you are looking to work their, and if you do, you should utilise these contacts and see if they know about any jobs available in their own company or around in the area they live or work. Also if you know someone who works at a company who are looking to recruit, you should get them to give a recommendation as the Dutch take personal recommendations seriously.

Dutch Media

If you can get hold of them, Dutch Newspapers will be a great source of jobs in their classified sections. Most jobs get posted in the Saturday edition of Dutch newspapers, some popular ones are de Telegraaf, de Volkskrant and Algemeen Dagblad. There are also papers that only deal with classifieds and have very large job sections the most popular ones are De Partikulier, Intermediarir and Via Via.

Public Employment Service

In the Netherlands, the a public service called CWI or the Centre for Work and income is very important in the Dutch employment scene. They essentially help you find work and give you advice to help you on your way. All you need is a SOFI nummer which you receive when you turn fourteen in Holland. But us foreigners can apply for one at the Belastingdienst (tax office).

Recruitment Agencies

The last good source for finding jobs is uitzenbureaus which are employment agencies/recruitment firms/headhunters. These professionals are ideal for finding you the perfect job so it is worth talking to them.
