A logo is one of the most important features of any business. It is usually the first thing people encounter with a company and it needs to speak to them in order to be successful. Research has shown that people process images in their mind more than simply words alone, so a big effort needs to go into your logo design and other company branding. There are a number of do's and don'ts when it comes to designing a logo, and here are some of the most crucial factors that need to be considered.A business logo gives brand name recognition and its uniqueness can easily distinguish it from other brands or products. That being said, your logo does not necessarily need to say what your business does. Words and symbols are the most common aspects in logo design, but if you're using both, make sure they compliment eachother. A graphic looks very nice but make sure it relates to your business model...it you sell pet food and have an image of a car tyre in the logo, it's going to confuse people as to what you're about. The text will usually be the name of your business. There are hundreds of fonts you can choose from but again make sure it relates to your business. If you're a corporate company selling financial products, you don't want fun curly words as you need to come across with a high level of professionalism. By the same token if you're organising kids parties, you want a logo that is fun and colourful. A script font conveys elegance, and thick font conveys power and strength, and a slanted font conveys movement. Choose something that reflects what your business is about.Another important factor is to keep it simple. When people see a complex logo they can be a bit overwhelmed and something clean and professional will also be more memorable. A simple logo is better when using across multiple mediums. If it is to be used on the web, in flyers, on billboards and on clothing, too many colours or graphics or other stuff will decrease the likelihood of it. Your logo should also be scalable, that is, it looks the same whether it's really small or really big.You need to ensure it is totally unique. When someone sees your logo, you want them to associate it with you and nobody else. If it looks too much like another business, the potential customer will think you don't have any creativity or worse still might think you're part of that other company. You could even get into copyright violation and face legal issues. Hiring a graphic designer is a great idea, as a few hundred dollars for branding can generate a lot more money for your business in the future.
