What’s the Difference Between Promotional Items and Corporate Gifts?


Many marketing experts believe that promotional items are a better way of promoting your brand rather than the usual means of advertising. This is because the items are more permanent, in a sense, than a TV or radio ad. But amongst all the items out there, how do you know which item is the best for your brand, product and/or services.
There are three things that you need to remember when choosing your promotional product. First, it’s important that your item is functional and usable. Sure, trinkets are pretty and nice to look at, but in the long run, they will not be used by the consumer anymore. It’s better to give away something that they can always use and will remind them of how great your brand is.
Next, you have to choose the right avenue to deliver your message, or rather, your promotional product. Otherwise, they will just be lost amidst the deluge of messages and products that try to reach consumers every day.
Finally, and most importantly, you have to identify who is your target market, because that is the major factor that will decide what kind of product you will give away. Here are some examples per target market
If you’re targeting kids, of course the parents are the ones you need to convince since they hold the purse strings. But you need to get the kids’ attention first so that they will want their parents to buy whatever it is you’re promoting. Promotional items for children are actually among the least expensive and most effective ones to choose from. Inexpensive toys and gadgets are high on the list. In addition to toys, you may choose other novelties such as trick pens, rubber band bracelets printed with your store’s name and stress toys, which form very popular promotional items for products aimed at children.
For pre-teens and teens, free giveaways for the purchase of a product or service is a huge draw. The item needs to be “cool” enough for them to wear or show off to their friends. Items that publicize a message or idea can also become a trendy item, for example, the red ribbon for AIDS campaign a few years back.
For women, free items that you get from loyalty and point system schemes are a surefire hit. Women are the most likely to shop and be your loyal buyers, so they feel good when you reward them for their loyalty
When you want to reach the decision-makers of a corporation, you need to think about sophistication and class. Many purveyors of promotional products like to suggest that the more expensive the executive gift you choose, the better the impression that you make. Most likely they will be impressed by gadgets, branded items and products that will enhance their image as a top executive.
For you to be able to find the right product, the right market and the right avenue, thorough research has to be conducted to be able to determine the best promotional item for your brand.
