The LED is a simple device which has innumerous applications. It emits light when electricity passes through it. Its working principle is very straightforward. A Gallium Arsenide Phosphate semiconductor forms the core of the device. The semiconductor is connected to an anode and a cathode at two ends. When electricity flows from the anode to the cathode light is emitted. It has a lens which brightens the light so that it can be seen from a long distance and a plastic case for protection.

In the field of advertisement it lies mostly in LED signs and billboards. They have many advantages over their traditional counterparts. The difference lies in the fact that they can display high quality colored images which are as crystal clear as a television picture. Not only that, even major sporting events have started using signs as scoreboards. This has led to the rapid development of the wholesale LED signs business.

Every business whether it is large or small must advertise its product or services. A business owners advertisement must be such that consumers are encouraged to buy their products or services. Most companies found that by using this technologies were the best way to achieve this. Thus the business of wholesale provided these companies with signs which were tailor made for them.

Previously signs were static. A static sign would definitely not get the attention of someone as much as an LED sign would. Restaurants and shopping malls all use LED signs to attract customers. LED devices can be found in most street intersections of metropolitan cities and off all freeways. Even gas stations use the bright LED signs so that travelers on the freeways can see them from a long distance.

Their success lies in also in the fact that multiple messages can be displayed from a single sign.

Controlling this devices is very simple too. Generally it is connected to a computer and an operator can easily change the message with a few mouse clicks. He can even decide on whether the message would flash, scroll or blink etc.

Possibly the most important reason for the growth of LED signs is due to the fact that they are cheap and affordable. With just minimal maintenance their lifetime can be prolonged for a long period. Along with that the signs consume very little power. Nearly no energy is wasted. Unlike LED signs in case of traditional signs if the message had to be changed, the entire thing had to be pulled down and a new one made. Thus LED signs save money and material.
