Mobility scooters as the name suggests is a mobility aid. These scooters look like wheelchairs but they are powered by batteries. There are different types of mobility scooters. You can find four wheel mobility scooters and three wheel mobility scooters. Many people prefer three wheel scooters, as it is easy to manage and maneuver for indoor usage. With the help of mobility scooters, we can move about freely without having to depend on others. We do not have to strain ourselves to move around like in the case of manual wheel chairs. These are more sophisticated gadgets that make life easy for people who have mobility issues. The best part of using these mobility scooters is that we can regain the freedom that we once enjoyed. When you use three wheel scooters you can steer effortlessly as it uses a very simple steering design. A three wheel mobility scooter uses a very simple yet functional design. It has a comfortable seat, a small platform like structure for the user to place their feet, two rear wheels and an easy to steer single front wheel. The entire unit is operated or powered by batteries that are rechargeable so that it is clean and safe without any emissions for internal use. At one stage there were also three wheeled scooters that were powered by petrol. However nowadays, the most preferred way of powering these mobility scooters is rechargeable batteries.

Mobility scooters come with a variety of controls to help the user to freely move around. There are control switches, which will allow you to move the scooter in the forward or reverse directions. These controls can be in the form of finger controlled buttons, switches or paddles so that you do not have to struggle with gears to control the forward and reverse movements. In ordinary scooters, it is not possible to ride the scooter in the reverse direction but it is very important to have this feature in mobility scooters without which moving around with mobility scooters will become really cumbersome. Since the first mobility scooter that was built in 1968, various versions and models of mobility scooters have been built by various mobility scooter manufactures and each one try to outdo the other in terms of comfort, design and features. Today, we can also find foldable mobility scooters that are convenient for travel purposes. Many establishments have mobility scooters for use within their premises. More and more individuals who have mobility problems and who are ageing are going for mobility scooters these days. With mobility scooters, you do not need the stamina that is required to operate a manual wheelchair, which can tire you. The modern designs of three wheel scooters or mobility scooters have moved far from their traditional wheelchair like appearance in their design to sophisticated designs. It is becoming a standard geriatric item more than an aid for people with other mobility problems.
