-- A lesson on motorcycles and motorcycle buying
Motorcycle travel is one of the most common means of transportation in many countries in the world due to the vehicle’s lesser consumption of gasoline and the small space needed for storage. Some motorcycles were also reported to travel as fast as cars. There are, however, disadvantages to the use of this type of vehicle such as the higher risk of accidents due to the lack of safety features like a seatbelt and airbags and lesser passenger capacity.
Motorcycles are used for different purposes including races, pure pleasure or as a means of transport when going on short and long trips to the country. Because of this, several designs of motorcycles have been made. Whether you’re going on long distance travel, urban travel, sport and racing and off-road conditions there’s a certain style that’s fit for you. Also, the terrain you are going to travel on requires different types of tires - off road tires need to be knobby because it needs the traction; road tires have treads, racing tires are smooth.
The history of motorcycles can be traced as far back as 1885 with the design made by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. Indian was the top producer during the period of the First World War until Harley-Davidson took the title in the 1920s with their motorcycles being sold in 67 countries. At present, Japanese names like Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha dominate the world market for motorcycles but Harley-Davidson remains a top choice in the US.
When buying motorcycle, there are some things that one needs to consider. An important question you need to ask yourself before you choose a style is: Are you riding mostly in the city or you’re planning to go on long bike trips to the country? Just as I mentioned, motorbikes are designed differently depending on the purpose and the terrain you wish to travel. Most motorcycles nowadays are more capable of doing more than one duty as they are packed with more power now, thanks to the rapid improvement of technology. Some people would suggest a sportbike for daily commuting on twisty roads or for short trips. If you plan to go on long trips, it is best to use sport touring bikes since the seats are plusher and can travel at longer distances before you need to gas up again due to the larger gas tanks.
Now that you’ve decided the kind of bike you are going to purchase then its time for you to decide whether you are going to buy a new or used one.
The biggest disadvantage to buying a used motorcycle is the maintenance history of owners. Shopping for motorcycles for sale is best done during the day time is best done in the daytime you will immediately see the dents and scratches in the frame. Aside from this, small details like excessive dirt and rusty chains, frayed cables and bald tires are signs that the previous owner did not take care of them. Despite of what the cycle trader will say, make sure to have a trusted mechanic check on the engine to make sure that it is in good condition.
